Baby, don’t hurt me!
Just kidding… In fact, to me love is the complete opposite. It’s allowing yourself to be hurt by someone and continuing to love them anyway. It’s the risk of completely opening yourself in vulnerability and trusting in a power that is far greater than yourself, far greater than your deepest wounds, and far greater than fear or death. Love is the proper overcoming of fear. When you truly love, then you know that you have nothing to lose because love always wins!
I have felt love before. I think we all have. I think at its core, being in love feels like a place of safety. It comes back to the idea that when you trust the power of love, it overcomes fear. When you love, your soul applauds you and there you find peace. You reject the lies and come to a place of thanksgiving that doesn’t require you to rush onto the next thing, but rather just dive deeper into the present moment. Here is where you can find the seedlings of pure creativity.
When someone looks deeply in love at you, the rest of the world seems to fade away. Love assures us of comfort and protection, but to be able to return that fully, you have to be able to love yourself and the fact that you exist because you were made for love. You must be able to know that you yourself are a fountain of love and be able to rest there in love’s peace inside of you. What will come into you when you do that are the inspirations or breaths of creativity, those movements that inspire you to make or do something new and shine, so much to the point that your love can’t be contained and it must be spread to others without delay! What will gush forth from you are works and gifts of love to others characterized by your own experiences of love.
Love does not judge or limit itself to one group of people. Actually, it recognizes that the same power, potential, and capability of love that is inside you is equally found in all other people. There is no one that is not worthy of your love, and it's your love that will help heal people. If someone is not loving, well then it’s your job to teach and show them what it means to love and be loved! Show them that they are loved by your words and actions, and they will grow into love. If you show them your wounds and love them anyway, trust will be built. Trust in love saves.
It’s an ongoing process, but each day forgiveness is new. You can forgive yourself for the ways you erred in the past, and you can forgive others for the way that they have hurt you. What happens when you do this is that you create room in love for your heart, clearing out old gunk that was taking its place before. Each time you turn to love, the more and more you are purified.
In this season, it’s love that will melt the coldness of peoples’ hearts. It’s love that will shine the light and warm people up. It’s love that will give forth its gift to blossoming and new life. It is love that will remind us of who we are, where we come from, and where it is we are going. Love is.
Who will you love today?
